4.7 Antivirus

Antivirus exclusion

Antivirus software scan files in real-time as they are opened, modified, or created. This can cause performance and other issues in cadwork. We have found that some antivirus programs are more problematic than others.
Such issues with cadwork can occur overnight without any apparent reason. Listed below some possible causes:

• Automatic Windows update
• Graphics driver update
• Internal network performance issue (temporary network interruption)

We recommend completely disabling the antivirus on the affected PC to run tests. If the performance increases and other issues disappear, it is due to the real-time antivirus scanning.

Possible exclusions list

%PROGRAMFILES%\cadwork.dir (*)

The cadwork program files are located in the %PROGRAMFILES%\cadwork.dir folder. Excluding this folder from real-time antivirus scanning can resolve issues with performance or executables being deleted during an update. It also helps avoid problems and delay when opening a file.

%PROGRAMDATA%\cadwork

This folder contains the cadwork catalog and installation log files. Excluding this folder from real-time antivirus scanning can resolve issues with slow access to catalog files (inserting catalogs into a project).

%PROGRAMDATA%\firebird

Firebird is the database management system used by cadwork. The %PROGRAMDATA%\firebird folder contains the database files. Excluding this folder from real-time antivirus scanning can resolve issues with slow opening or saving of a project.

%PROGRAMDATA%\{*}

The %PROGRAMDATA%\{*} folder contains the InstallAware installation cache files for cadwork. Excluding this folder from real-time antivirus scanning can resolve issues with performance and errors during installation or updating of cadwork. The number in braces changes with each cadwork version. Here is the list of folders for the last 3 versions:

Temporary working folder for files (folder where files are extracted before opening). Example %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\cadwork\CWDBS_3D_30_x64

%TEMP%\CLIPBOARD

cadwork clipboard folder for communication between different cadwork modules.

%TEMP%\~CI_*

Text files starting with `~CI_` and located in the user's temporary folder are the log files for cadwork projects. They describe what the user does in the cadwork project. These files are essential in case of problems.
