3.1 Introduction

General

This document provides additional information to the Installation Guide described in Chapter 1 of this manual, and is aimed specifically at IT administrators.
We recommend that you take note of our PC recommendations.

Program prerequisites

To run the web installer (cwsetup), you must always have local administrator rights. The cwsetup checks the prerequisites of the following programs, downloads them and installs them if necessary:

• Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015-2022- Required for all cadwork modules.
• Microsoft DirectX 9c - Required for 3D (driver in Graphics Options via ALT+W → General)

cwsetup uses *.7zip packages, which cannot be used for manual installation. Packages must be located in the same directory as cwsetup.exe for offline installation.

Hosts for online updates

The following hosts are used by cwsetup via https or http to check for and download updates:

• cadworkdownload.com
• cadworkdownload2.com
• ftp.cadwork.ch

Proxy server

cwsetup uses a download engine provided by Microsoft Windows to download updates. Proxy server settings must therefore be entered directly in the Internet Options -> Connections tab → LAN settings for the user, with local administrator rights. Alternatively, the proxy server can be defined and activated directly in the cwsetup settings.

Required Windows Explorer folders

The following folders are used when installing or working with cadwork.

Folders for cadwork Setup

• %ProgramData%\<Setup GUID>
  Installation path for unzipped *CWSetup*; GUID changes with each version
  The GUID for version 30 and 30 SP2024 is: {9FE5FAA6-2174-41A7-AC9C-2D826585F1E4}
• %ProgramData%\cadwork\CWSetup\<cadwork version>
  CWSetup log files
• %Temp%\mia<1>
  cwsetup temporary working folder
  The number can be incremented if the temporary folder is not deleted at the end of the installation.
• %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Common Files\cadwork\CWSetup\<Setup Build>
  Folder where cwsetup is updated.
• %Public%documents\cadwork\Update
  Default path for downloading update files

Folders for cadwork Start

• %Temp%\cadwork
  Temporary work file.
• %AppData%\cadwork
  User-specific cadwork parameters.

Folders for cadwork modules (2D, 3D, ...)

• %ProgramData%\Firebird
  Working folder for the Firebird database.
• %Temp%
  Temporary working folder for log files.
• %Temp%\CLIPBOARD
  Clipboard between files :
  • 2D to 2D (2 then 3)
  • 3D to 3D (2 then 3)
  • 2D to 3D and vice versa (, then 3)
• %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\cadwork\CWDBS_<module cadwork>_<version cadwork>_x64
  Example: %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalcadworkCWDBS_3D_30_x64
  Temporary working folder for the cadwork file.
  When cadwork files are opened, the file is decompressed into this folder with a temporary GUID (the GUID will be different the next time the same file is started).
• %AppData%\cadwork
  User-specific parameters
  It is important to save this folder before changing PCs. Pre-settings are made here and will influence cadwork's operation.
• %ProgramFiles%\cadwork.dir
  Default software installation folder.
  It is not recommended to change this path.
• %Public%\documents\cadwork
  Default path for userprofile and user catalogs(userprofil_<Version> and cadwork.cat)
